Mesut Ozil has signed a three-and-a-half year contract, and will earn around £60,000 a week from Fenerbahce
He will receive a signing on fee of around £4.5m, and Ozil’s wages will be boosted by sponsors and endorsements.
Fenerbahce President Ali Koc requested fans to send goodwill text messages to financially support the club, with each text worth around £2 to the club.
Already, over 160,000 messages have been sent – earning the club over £300,000. The campaign will continue until he is formally presented – either on Tuesday or Wednesday. Fans are using the hashtag #MesutOl – which means “Be Happy”, with Koc urging the fans to “break a record”.
Koc said: “Maybe 300k, 500k or maybe even a million text messages come together. This support will do us very good”.
